Sew a quilted fabric vanity case

Little tutorial offered by Ambre, who came to do an internship with us to sew you a pretty quilted fabric vanity case!

We used the free PDF Tuto pattern from the Les Patronnes website.

Materials needed:

- Main fabric: 40cm by 140cm (pre-washed): Matelassé Garance Rose

- Lining: 40 cm by 140 cm (pre-washed) or 50 cm by 140 cm if using lining fabric for the bias

- Zipper foot

- 100% Polyester matching thread

- Piping: 2 x 55 cm: Silver piping / Bias: 2 x 55cm to buy by the meter or to make with your lining fabric

Steps to follow

1/ Cut out the fabric and the lining using the patterns (don’t forget the notches!)

2/ Integrate the zipper foot

3/ Superimpose No. 4 right side against right side lining and fabrics by integrating the zipper in “Sandwich” and pin!

4/ Assemble at 1cm

5/ Integrate the classic crowbar

6/ Topstitch

7/ Repeat the operation for No. 5

8/ Place right side against right side No. 3 Body and back lining (place the notches at the zipper level!

9/ Assemble at 1cm

10/ Repeat the operation with the other end to make a ring.

11/ Superimpose No. 2 lining and fabric right side against right side, pin

12/ Turn the handle over

13/ Place the handle on top, place No. 1 according to the notch marks.

14/ Prick at 0.5 cm

15/ Take No. 1 below, position the piping less than 1cm from the edge (depending on the width of the piping) and pin

15/ Using the zipper presser foot, assemble the wrong side of the fabric and the wrong side of the lining.

16/ Repeat for the top

17/ Leave the zipper open to be able to return

18/ Make gathers on the lengths of No. 1 right side.

19/ Pin to the body of the Vanity

20/ Assemble at 1 cm

21/ Create your own handmade bais using the lining fabric or buy one ready-made

22/ Prepare it with the iron

23/ Place the bias on the internal edges of the Vanity right side against right side and pin

24/ Prick at the same level as the previous punctures

25/ Fold down the bias

26/ Sew ribbing into the previous seam

27/ Return and iron!

If I had to do it again

- buy ready-made bias binding for a nicer finish

- the zipper would have deserved a more ivory color than white

- the piping was also too thin for this type of project and with the gathers tends to make little bundles in one area

Patience and beautiful sewing!
