Hello everyone! This little break with Perrine dates back to July of last year... How can I explain except that we were a bit... overwhelmed, which explains the late publication. I hope Perrine will forgive us ;-) "better late than never," and we thank her immensely for playing along with our little game/break! Without further ado... Discover the break with... Auguste & Septembre!
- Can you briefly introduce yourself in a tweet (less than 280 characters)? Emoticons are accepted.
My name is Perrine, I like to read, write, sew, eat macarons, and let off steam through sports, but not all at the same time.
-Auguste & Septembre, what are they?
A little nod to my children's birth months, the eldest being born in August and the second in September. I love this nickname all the more because it's also the result of a family brainstorming session with my brothers and sister. And I had a specific brief, they were really good!
-What does sewing represent for you?
A release valve, a decompression chamber, but also a source of self-confidence. While I deeply love my work, I sometimes suffer from a lack of recognition or a feeling of uselessness, so it makes me proud to master something manual, to wear what I've made with my own hands, and to realize that I've progressed and continue to progress. It's also a way to wear what I want and what I desire.
-Tell us about your worst sewing experience.
Is it possible to have both the worst and the best experience at the same time? My mom is part of a Breton dance group and asked me to help her make her traditional costume. Without a pattern, with somewhat vague instructions but specific criteria to follow (dress with pleats at the sleeve heads, square neckline and offset gathers, bodice with a high lace collar, 3 different petticoats...), let's just say I grumbled a lot (sorry Mom!), cut and recut, sewed and unstitched, broke needles, and grumbled some more... But in the end, I'm so happy to see her in it, that she likes it, that she can show it off at performances, and that her friends are jealous :)
-You, as a teacher, if you had to give an assessment of Atelier 27?
Congratulations, you have successfully used your talents and dedication to deliver meticulous and high-quality work. We encourage you to continue in this direction by focusing your efforts on generous fabric donations to Auguste & Septembre (no, that's a bit much?).
-If you were in charge of Atelier 27, what project would you like to launch?
A range of plain fabrics in lots of beautiful colors and basic materials (cotton satin, tencel, viscose twill) to create a wardrobe that you can really wear every day.
-Your favorite boss?
It's torture to choose! Can I say two?
* The Guinguette dress from Cousette, in short or long versions, in winter or summer fabric, is really my favorite!
* The Albane shirt that I had the chance to create in partnership with Chez Machine.
But I am also a fan of Slow Sunday and Atelier Scammit for their timeless and elegant patterns with impeccable finishes.
-A fabric that doesn't deserve to exist?
Synthetic stuff that makes you sweat and gives you static hair. Does that have a name?
-What is your favorite music to listen to while sewing?
I listen to a lot of podcasts when I sew (Generation XX, Le Gratin, Affaires Sensibles, How I Built This...). But when it comes to music, it's Bowie, Velvet Underground, Blondie and the like.
-How do you see yourself in 27 years?
Like now, 27 years older... Well, close to retirement, and maybe a grandmother then... This question is awful, you're well aware of that?
-If you had the superpower to skip one annoying step in sewing, which one would it be?
The sleeve assembly. Yet I find that it is after this step that you really see what the garment will look like, that it starts to have structure... But really, taking in the ease and setting in the sleeve... it's not what I prefer (nice understatement, isn't it?).
-You are given an elephant, you can neither sell it nor get rid of it, what do you do with it?
"I climb onto his trunk, a bit like a swing, and we go on a journey to all the cities of the world... I talk and he listens to me while eating peanuts. Since he's very big, everyone lets us pass. It would make a nice children's story: 'The Little Girl and the Elephant'."
I completely agree with you ;-) !
-What do you think the future of fashion is?
"Clean lines, simple chic, and responsible practices in terms of design, manufacturing, and the environment."
-A really cool Instagram account to follow
"I don't know if it's really cool, but I recently discovered the Archer & Olive account as part of my "bullet journal" obsession, and I'm a fan of their illustrations. Rachel Ryle's little animations are great too."
As for the style, I love Redhead Doll.
There are so many, actually... As someone who's curious about everything, I follow accounts about plants (in addition to DIY, of course), as well as beauty and lifestyle accounts. I love pretty photos; they're inspiring.
-Is there someone you'd like us to interview?
Marielle from Annexe dilettante, my absolute fashion idol!
Complete the following sentence:
“Sewing is life because…”
When you keep your fingers busy, you clear your head and afterwards you're zen and proud of yourself!
Thank you! Perrine
A big thank you to Perrine for taking the time to answer our questions and share her usual good humor :-)
