✨ Viscose crepe: the fluid, chic and easy-to-sew fabric (or almost!)
If you love soft, flowing, and elegant fabrics, you've surely come across viscose crepe . Perfect for flowing dresses, light blouses, or airy skirts, this material is a little marvel... provided you know a bit about it before sewing! In this article, we tell you everything about viscose crepe : how it's made, why it's so special, and above all, how to sew and care for it properly.
🌿 Viscose crepe: a natural fiber… reworked
Viscose is a man-made fiber of natural origin , produced from wood pulp (often beech, eucalyptus, or bamboo). It is then transformed into a textile fiber through a chemical process. The result: a fluid, breathable, silky-soft material that is particularly comfortable to wear. Ecovero-certified viscose guarantees a more environmentally friendly chemical transformation process.
In the case of viscose crepe , a specific weave is used: slightly twisted, "crepeed" yarns, combined with an irregular interlacing, which gives it that famous "grainy," slightly crinkled, and textured effect. This crepe weave provides drape , a beautiful shape, and a touch of both elegance and casualness .
🖌️ And what about patterns? Viscose is a true champion of textile printing: it absorbs inks well, resulting in crisp patterns , vibrant colors , and excellent durability. This material is generally used every season in our collections. We are currently researching and developing an eco-friendly version of this crepe.

🧵 Sewing viscose crepe: which needles to use?
Yes, viscose crepes are fluid . And yes, they can move a little under the presser foot! But with the right tools and a little preparation, it's perfectly achievable, even for a beginner+ level.
Our sewing tips:
- Choose a Microtex or Universal fine needle , size 70/10 or 75/11
- Use a fine polyester thread to avoid breakage (e.g., Mettler, offered in our shop in a perfect color combination).
- Secure the fabric with clips or a small hand basting before sewing.
- Avoid pulling on the fabric: let the machine do the work gently.
👉 Bonus tip: to prevent the fabric from slipping during cutting, feel free to use a cutting mat with a rotary cutter, and cut patiently, as cutting is by far the most complex step with this fluid and slippery fabric.
🧼 Viscose crepe care: gentle, but not complicated
Contrary to what one might think, viscose crepe is quite easy to care for. Simply follow a few simple rules to guarantee it a long lifespan:
- Wash in cold water or at 30°C , delicate cycle
- Air dry , ideally on a hanger (definitely no tumble dryer)
- Iron gently on the reverse side , using steam if needed and a damp cloth is recommended.
- Pre-washing the fabric is mandatory before sewing, as viscose tends to shrink slightly on the first wash (approximately -3%).
